BBC World Service | Learning English
The English learning site of the British Broadcasting Corporation ("the Beeb"). This site explains the vocabulary and grammar useful for understanding news stories. Don't be put off by the British English. Standard British English, sometimes called "BBC English," is quite similar to standard American English, something that cannot be said of the various non-standard dialects of British English.
NPR
National Public Radio. The site offers excellent news stories on a variety of topics. Try Morning Edition, Day to Day, or All Things Considered for daily news. Talk of the Nation has deeper analysis and a special Science Friday program that you might find interesting.
