POSTECH
Tae-Joon Park
Digital Library
Opened in 2003, the Tae-Joon Park Digital Library was established to honor the vision of Tae-Joon Park, the honorary chairman and founder of POSTECH. Spanning a total floor area of 24,420㎡ across one basement level and six above-ground floors, this advanced facility surpasses the traditional role of a library by offering diverse research and learning resources.
From 2020 to 2022, the library underwent extensive renovations, redesigning its learning spaces to align with modern educational needs. It introduced open areas to foster collaboration, state-of-the-art multimedia production and editing facilities, and eco-friendly indoor landscaping to create a comfortable and stimulating learning and research environment.
The library integrates AI technology along with VR (Virtual Reality) and MR (Mixed Reality) devices to provide innovative learning and research experiences. Users can borrow these devices for immersive educational activities and apply them in various scholarly and creative projects. These services offer POSTECH members hands-on experience with the latest technology, enhancing their research depth. Moreover, the library's generative AI-powered search engine facilitates efficient access to academic resources.
The Tae-Joon Park Digital Library became the first private university library to receive the Grand Prize at the Korean Library Awards in 2024, hosted by the Korean Library Association. Its efforts to innovate library spaces and share POSTECH’s globally recognized research achievements were highly acclaimed. The transformation into an open and comfortable multifunctional cultural space was particularly noted for its contribution to the library's societal value.
